Energy & Technical Services (ETS), are an award-winning multi-disciplinary consultancy practice providing technical engineering expertise and energy management support.
Established for over 20 years, they work with clients cross the UK and Ireland on a variety of projects ranging in value from small scale to £multimillion schemes. Their teams include highly skilled Data Analysts and Energy Managers who remotely monitor real time energy consumption from their Technical Energy Centre and deliver significant cost and carbon reduction benefits to their clients across all buildings and sectors.
Moon Executive Search has had a very long term relationship with ETS, having been initially instructed by their Managing Director and Founder in early 2015 - this was to manage a confidential technical appointment for the business and subsequently we have managed a number of further appointments as ETS has enjoyed significant year on year growth and success.
The Challenge
Our instructions since 2015 have ranged in complexity and challenge, but as we have continued to work with ETS, Moon has developed a clear understanding of what is important when considering candidates for their business.
We have proudly supported ETS in appointing candidates across their business, including technical and analytical roles and head office appointments. The friendly ETS team value teamwork, excellent organisation and communication skills and individuals who can work in a fast-paced moving environment with time critical deadlines.
For each role we have always sought candidates who can demonstrate an ability to operate with autonomy, possess a keen eye for detail and demonstrate a strong drive and passion for achieving results whilst managing high volume workloads. In addition, before commencing any search for ETS, we consider the role specific skill sets required, whether that be IT, mathematical and statistical skills for analytical positions or commercial awareness with a knowledge of working in a technical environment and engaging effectively with clients for Head Office appointments. The strength of the business is their technical precision and their understanding and knowledge of the sector they operate in, so we always look to introduce candidates who can see this journey, add value and help to enhance their national footprint.
As we have been instructed on multiple roles, to aid communication throughout any search, once instructed we typically appoint two points of contact from Moon to manage the search and we have now deployed an Internal ‘Moon/ETS’ search team led by Simon Quinn, (Director of Search) and Gemma Wilks (Executive search Consultant) and together they oversee all campaigns.
This also allows us to plan the best approach to the market that will deliver successful outcomes and we vary our involvement in different processes as appropriate. For example, we will sometimes guide on the candidate briefing documents for a specific search or join the interview panel to provide an independent assessment of the candidate and provide a consistent candidate journey through the process. So, what has been key to each successful search conducted, is our ability to listen carefully and represent ETS professionally in the market.
By undertaking detailed market analysis for each instruction, we see our remit to not only provide a strong and relevant shortlist of candidates for ETS, but also to share useful market information such as competitor analysis, salary and benefit packages and any innovative emerging trends which keep ETS at the forefront of their sector.
Above all else, we understand that ETS demand only the best talent to join their successful team and as such, we keep ETS informed throughout a search and ensure we are offering creative and innovative solutions to even the most niche search instruction.
Our Approach
When commencing a new search for ETS, we always spend time with the leadership team to fully appreciate their requirements and the background to the appointment. Given that ETS has expanded so successfully in recent years, often the position is a new post, so it is vital to understand where the person will fit into the new team structure. Understanding this fully is critical to identifying the right candidate and ensuring they are culturally aligned to the core business values.
