(Closed) Active Gloucestershire seeking Strategic Manager for Sport England Partnership

Active Gloucestershire is the organisation that supports Gloucestershire’s approach to sport and physical activity called we can move. This new role of Strategic Manager has come about as a result of a partnership with Sport England and will focus on applying learning, building and establishing relationships in areas of the sport and physical activity system that Active Gloucestershire have yet to gain traction e.g. economy and industrial strategy. This new role will have freedom and autonomy to explore new areas and to apply approaches that complement their theory of change.



They are now seeking a new role of Strategic Manager to join their team. You will play an important part in linking the work being undertaken nationally and locally, whilst bringing enhanced opportunities for learning and organisational development.

As part of a wider team you will work nationally with a colleagues to deliver their shared vision through a variety of projects and activities.

Active Gloucestershire need someone who will continue to support this collective work, to address inequalities using sport and physical activity, whilst building new partnerships and relationships.


We are seeking candidates with experience of:

  • Demonstrable commitment to the values of Active Gloucestershire and we can move.

  • Understanding and awareness of the policy and operating environment, understanding the cultural, political and stakeholder context to decide the best approaches.

  • Experience of working with senior executive and political leaders, working at a strategic level to influence policy and delivery.

  • Experience of working with partners to deliver better outcomes for underrepresented groups and experience of how people can be put at the centre of local service transformation.

  • Highly developed problem-solving skills showing the ability to diagnose complex problems in detail, weigh up the various options and follow through to a positive outcome.

  • Evidence of highly developed engagement and influencing skills and its clear impact on partners or in a place.

  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively with and in teams, promoting a collaborative working environment.
