(Closed) Falmouth University Seeks Chair & Independent Member of the Board of Governors

To help achieve this vision, they’re looking to enhance the Board of Governors, by appointing a new Chair of the Board and Independent Member of the Board. The main responsibilities of the Board of Governors are as follows:
- Determine the educational character and mission of the University.
- Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
- Approving the framework for pay and conditions of all staff, alongside annual estimates of income and expenditure.
- Promote the University’s interests locally, nationally, and internationally.
- Oversee performance and appointments of the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive.
Chair of the Board of Governors
The Chair’s role is to lead the Board, ensuring effective governance of the University. The successful candidate will have extensive leadership experience in a complex public or private organisation, excellent interpersonal skills, and strong communication abilities. The Chair will be able to demonstrate strong empathy with the Mission, Vision and Values of the University and be a role model for students and staff alike.
Key information:
- Unremunerated with reasonable expenses covered.
- 6 Board meetings per annum, with provision for videoconferencing when necessary.
- Time commitment for other meetings and events: Approximately 30-50 days per year.
Independent Member of the Board
The Independent Member of the Board will provide unbiased advice, perspective, and judgement to the Board. Falmouth University is seeking an outstanding individual, passionate about strategic development and fostering an environment in which the institutional mission is achieved. The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: creative and cultural industries, higher education, commercial ventures, or capital projects.
Key information:
- Unremunerated with reasonable expenses covered.
- 6 Board meetings per annum, with a minimum of 3 to be attended in person. Remaining meetings attended through videoconferencing.
