My First Board Role: Guy Buckland
At Moon Executive Search, we work closely with our clients to place candidates in a range of Board roles, from Non-Executive Directors in multinational corporations, to Chairs and Trustees in non-profit organisations.
6 – 11 March is Careers Week in the UK – giving us the opportunity to look closer at a rarely looked at aspect of career development – the addition of Board roles to a successful career.
So, we're asking first-time Board members placed by Moon Executive Search how their board role has changed their career.
Today we're privileged to have insights from Guy Buckland.
Senior Learning and Development Manager at RPC Law Firm, Guy was appointed as Chair of The Board of Trustees at West of England Sport Trust (Wesport) last year.
“During the Covid Pandemic I was looking for a voluntary role that could support health and wellbeing, so I applied for the role of Trustee of Wesport, an active partnership delivering the remit of Sport England and trying to get more people to lead active and healthy lives in the West of England. The organisation delivers a range of projects and initiatives, and after two years on the Board I have now taken on the role of Chair of Trustees.
It has been tremendously rewarding to contribute to such a great organisation that is delivering ground-breaking and important work, and has brought me into contact with a new and more diverse group of people, as well as challenging me to develop different types of leadership and people skills.
Thanks to Sandy and Moon for supporting and encouraging my initial application, I have been able to broaden my experience and take on new challenges at a time when most people are thinking about slowing down”.
