St Peter’s Hospice provides care and support to adults living with a life-limiting illness in the Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset Area. They believe that everyone with a life-limiting illness deserves access to the best possible care and to live their final days with dignity. St Peter’s supports patients and their families both at home, and at their ultra-modern inpatient unit. The Hospice team operates around the clock to aid individuals and families coping with the difficulties of a life-limiting illness, whether it's assisting with pain, offering bereavement guidance, or alleviating symptoms.
The Charity has grown significantly since its origin in 1978, currently employing over 400 staff and an additional 1200 volunteers. The Hospice team has overcome stern challenges in recent years, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, and coping with the cost-of-living crisis. Their current CEO, Frank Noble, will be retiring in the Spring of 2024 after 5 years in the role. They’re seeking a successor to lead the Hospice through a post-pandemic period of service enhancement. The new appointee will build a thriving future based on resilient teams, sustainable finances and the maximum possible provision of care for the community.
The new Chief Executive will be expected to provide visible and engaged leadership, ensuring the Hospice delivers clinical services to the highest standard, whilst simultaneously sustaining their financial viability. The CEO will have a wide range of responsibilities, spanning strategic planning, leadership, care standards and funding. Some of the key responsibilities are listed below:
Formulate the strategic plan to secure the stability and viability of the Hospice - delivering Hospice services, generating sufficient income and developing services to meet identified needs.
Promote a culture that develops high performing teams across the diverse range of hospice roles (clinical, fundraising, retail, support).
Ensure there are effective healthcare governance systems in place to maintain the best possible standard of care, and meet requirements of external regulators and other statutory bodies.
Maintain relationships with Integrated Care System commissioners in order to secure NHS contracts.
The successful candidate will be a committed, dynamic person with substantial senior leadership experience. Ideally, the individual will have managed multi-disciplinary professionals to deliver services against agreed objectives, standards, deadlines and budgets. A background of leading organisations through substantive change, whilst maintaining relationships with external organisations is highly desirable. They’re looking for someone with a consultative and participative management style, also equipped with the ability to make decisive judgements when needed.
Honesty and integrity are of the utmost importance at St Peter’s. The new Chief Executive must be committed to the philosophy and values of the Hospice - with a strong sense of ethics in decision making.
We’re interested in hearing from individuals with senior leadership experience who empathise with the health and care sector.
