SWIG Finance seeks Managing Director

Key information:

  • Location: South West region.

  • Full-time position: Flexible working arrangements from home and office.

  • Salary: Available on application.

  • Closing date: 14th March 2025.

The South West Investment Group (SWIG) has provided debt finance (up to £250,000) to micro and small businesses for over 30 years. This lending is an important part of the finance ecosystem in the greater Southwest, complementing banks and other SME financiers. SWIG has frontline hubs in Bristol, Exeter, and Poole, a larger office in Truro, and Business Development Managers throughout the region.

SWIG is a mission-led lender and measures its success by economic and social impact, in line with the UN’s Social Development Goals. All profits are reinvested to support further impact lending. In addition to lending its own funds, SWIG has fee-based arrangements to manage external funds, through headline contracts with Start-Up Loans Company and British Business Bank.

The South West Investment Group is seeking a Managing Director for SWIG Finance, its principal operating subsidiary. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the organisation and build on the steady growth achieved in recent years.

As Managing Director, you’ll be responsible for the business’s overall success. You will drive the development of fresh strategic directions, including exploring new products and lending channels. As a primary representative of SWIG, you’ll manage complex and varied stakeholder relationships and promote SWIG’s role in the evolving business landscape. Above all, you will provide strong leadership, enabling the business to deliver on the triple bottom line, with particular attention to the ESG and net zero agendas.

SWIG hopes to hear from authentic and active leaders who can motivate and develop the team. The successful candidate will have experience driving growth and strategic development from a senior position, alongside strong commercial and financial acumen. They will have a proven track record of building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, and a background negotiating and securing commercial funding. Furthermore, the Managing Director will be knowledgeable about SME businesses and their financial circumstances. They will be adaptable and comfortable managing multiple priorities and a geographically dispersed team.

Making a difference in communities is at the heart of SWIG’s work –  they’re seeking a leader who shares this commitment.
