Our Challenge

This is a pivotal time for Remit Group particularly as the shift in the economy requires training individuals’ new skills more than ever before. This search was for a new role of Chief Financial Officer and given that we have worked closely with a range of education and training establishments such as Public and Private Secondary Schools, Further & Higher Education Colleges, Universities and Government funded and private sector training businesses and consultancies, we knew that we could find the leader that they desired.

We undertook a full scoping exercise for the CFO role, ensuring the team were fully briefed on the search. Together with the client, we crafted a job profile for the role which included relevant background information and the company goals and aspirations.

Our Approach

From our conversations, we knew that Remit Group wanted a passionate, driven and knowledgeable leader ideally with broad knowledge of the training / education sectors sector who could bring a well-established reputation and a presence to the position. The ideal candidate would contribute effectively to strategic plans and offer sound, well-reasoned advice to the Board.

Focused on finding a high-profile candidate, we started a national search, drawing upon our UK network to identify the highest calibre of candidates for the shortlist, whilst being mindful that the Remit Group Head Office is based in Nottingham.

As the appointment of the CFO would be high-profile, it was important they culturally aligned to the vision and aims of Remit and could develop close working relationships with the Chair, CEO, Board and senior management team.

The detailed nature of the final stage process ensured that we were able to identify a shortlist of candidates that met the requirements of the brief.

Our Solution

After an extensive national search, the decision was made to bring Paul Thompson into the role of Chief Financial Officer for Remit Group.

Paul is a trained chartered accountant with over 16 years of board-level experience following his ‘Big 4’ training.  The board were impressed by Paul’s experience of developing and implementing change of systems and people to develop efficient teams and processes. Also, his understanding of Ofsted regulations and public bodies, alongside his track record of raising funds via both private equity and bank funding, made his candidacy stand out.
