Bristol Charities seeks Director of Fundraising and Communications

For over 600 years, Bristol Charities has been an integral part of the city's fabric, providing vital support to those in need. The organisation provides opportunities and services for people and communities - improving lives through grants, housing and charitable projects.

The organisation has a firm belief that deprivation and disadvantage can be tackled through resources, partnerships, innovation and determination. The Charity itself is being reimagined, as they embark on a 5-year strategy to transform lives and neighbourhoods across the city. This strategy will integrate Social Housing and Grant-making projects into their Community Transformation programme. They are in the process of launching three Community Hubs, which will accelerate and amplify their charitable impact.

All of their work will be delivered through a distinctive and coherent Community Hub model. These holistic centres will provide opportunities and support to communities through grants, housing, community projects, youth work, wellbeing activities and social enterprises. The Hubs will include projects directly delivered through Bristol Charities, alongside services administered by local partners. This Community Hub model will be designed to be replicable, with the flexibility to reflect local needs and priorities.

To deliver these ambitious plans, they are growing a team of dynamic, passionate people who care about local communities and bring energy and enthusiasm to the organisation. They’re seeking a Director of Fundraising & Communications to work alongside a refreshed Senior Leadership Team. Together they will deliver meaningful change and lasting impact for Bristol’s communities.

The Director of Fundraising will be responsible for setting the long-term fundraising vision. They will craft a strategy to generate income from grant-making Trusts and foundations, corporate partners, and major donors. These fundraising plans will support the delivery of all projects and programmes, involving proactive approaches to expand income growth and packaging their services to attract new funding relationships. The Director will also oversee a communications function to raise awareness for Bristol Charities’ impact and develop an internal communications plan to enhance staff wellbeing and strengthen organisational identity. Furthermore, they will play a key role in the Senior Leadership Team, providing thoughtful and creative guidance.

Given the breadth of influence and responsibility this role holds, the successful candidate will be a proven fundraising professional. They will have a demonstrable track record of income generation involving a broad and complex range of stakeholders. The Director will have experience implementing organisation-wide strategies, alongside excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders, colleagues and Trustees. The successful candidate will be passionate about the Charity’s vision and determined to deliver exceptional standards across all areas of responsibility.
