Voluntary Action North Somerset seeks Trustee

Key information:

  • Time commitment: c6 – 12 hours per month

  • Meetings are held in the evenings in Weston Super Mare – a mix of in person and on line

Voluntary Action North Somerset (VANS) is an independent charity that has championed the voluntary sector and volunteering across North Somerset for over 25 years. They are dedicated to creating a connected, inclusive, and thriving community for all. ​  

They provide representation on behalf of the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector (VCFSE) at strategic meetings with commissioners and statutory providers. They are registered members of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and adhere to the standards and practices of all national local infrastructure organisations (LIO’s). 

As a Trustee you will play a vital role in directing the affairs of VANS, ensuring a clear vision, mission, and strategic direction. ​ Your commitment to the non-profit sector and ability to work effectively as part of a team, combined with integrity and strategic vision are all qualities they value. ​ If you are passionate about making a difference, embracing diversity, and driving positive change, we encourage you to apply and be part of their journey towards empowering individuals and organisations. ​

 We are seeking a Trustee who can help VANS shape a better future for the local community.   This is a great opportunity to support and help develop this effective and impactful local ‘charity that supports other charities.

Serving as a Trustee typically requires a time commitment of at least 6 – 12 hours per month.

We are looking for people who can demonstrate: 

  • Partnership and operation leadership experience at a strategic level in either the voluntary, commercial, and/or public sector

  • A track record of strategic planning and financial management, able to look ahead and focus on the bigger picture.

  • An understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of directorship/trusteeship

  • The ability to lead, manage and inspire and is passionate about the work of the not-for-profit

  • Experience in policy, protocols and procedures development to ensure VANS meets its governance in full.

  • Experience in championing and advocating for equality, diversity and inclusion.

  • The time to commit to VANS in preparing and actively participating in Board activities and keeping up to date with changes within the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector they serve.

  • A positive and innovative approach to overcoming challenges and is an effective problem solver.

You may have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Children & Young People

  • Domestic Abuse

  • EDI

  • IT & Digital
