Bristol Zoological Society is a conservation and education Charity that’s committed to working with communities to save wildlife together. The organisation protects threatened and endangered species through direct conservation action and engaging people with the natural world. Their conservation science efforts are worldwide, from helping to re-introduce white-clawed crayfish into UK rivers, to working with communities all over the world to save critically endangered species.
In their recent history, BZS has overseen the closure of Bristol Zoo Gardens and created a new conservation zoo, focusing resources on threatened species, alongside education, applied field conservation and research for a positive conservation impact. Their vision is for wildlife to be a part of everyone’s lives and for people to want to, and be enabled to, protect wildlife now and for the future - this will be facilitated by their 15-year strategic plan. This plan outlines how the society will become a more effective conservation charity that harnesses conservation research, fieldwork and education. Additionally, BZS aims to increase public engagement and understanding of animals’ needs, creating a future where wild animals and humankind thrive together.
To take their vision forward, they’re seeking a new Trustee with significant expertise in fundraising. The Board of Trustees regulates all activities and assets, ensuring legal and charitable compliance and efficient use of resources. They review the mission and values of the Society, long-term plans and key performance indicators, making sure it’s sustainable and financially viable. Furthermore, Trustees will hold the Executive Board to account for its leadership and management of the Society, providing constructive challenges and guaranteeing that adequate systems of control and risk management are in place.
Bristol Zoological Society aims to have a diverse Board of Trustees with a range of knowledge and experience. They’re seeking a strategic and innovative thinker with notable fundraising experience, ideally as a manager or ambassador. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of advising major capital campaigns and a deep understanding of Charity fundraising. The individual will be a natural leader, with the motivation and ability to drive the Society forward. Finally, they will have a strong personal network of potential donors, supporters and corporate partners in the South-West region.
We’d love to hear from individuals who meet the outlined criteria and share BZS’s desire to better understand life on our planet, and inspire people to engage with the fascination of nature.
