Second Step is a leading mental health charity that’s been putting mental health first for people in Bristol and the South West for over 30 years. They believe that with the right support, everyone can take control of their life and make their future their own. With services in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Somerset, their mission is to promote mental health and wellbeing by supporting people and communities to build brighter futures. Working hand-in-hand with the NHS and local authorities, they offer practical help and emotional support tailored to each individual and their recovery.
Second Step’s services are recovery and strength based and psychologically and trauma informed, which complement other agencies. They support people with common mental health issues and people with more severe needs, specialising in those with complex needs.
Working holistically with people, supporting, signposting and navigating into other services and providing practical support such as housing in some services, their aim is that every contact matters, providing support today and developing skills for tomorrow to enable and empower people.
They build resilience and self-agency, empowering people by developing self-management skills, peer support and community connectedness. Their continued focus is on outcomes – the sustainable long term positive changes a person can achieve. They work actively within the mental health, homelessness and complex needs sectors, both locally and nationally.
Second Step is now seeking a new Chair to provide leadership to the Board to ensure that it achieves excellent standards of governance, determining the strategic direction, and directing the Charity’s affairs with effective and timely decisions. The new Chair will act in the best interests of Second Step and its clients to ensure that it is a sustainable organisation that provides high quality services.
Vice Chair, Oona Goldsworthy:
“This is an exciting – and challenging – time to be involved with this amazing organisation. Second Step is well regarded in the region as an expert in the work it does with some of the most vulnerable people in some of the most marginalised communities”.
