Since its foundation, the goal of the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution has been to promote and advance science, literature, and the arts for the people of Bath and its visitors. Almost two hundred years on, they aim to provide everyone who visits them with an inspiring, inclusive, and enlightening experience.
Founded in 1824 to create a permanent Literary and Scientific Institution where prominent residents of Bath could meet to socialise and debate, the Institution also housed an impressive collection of Roman antiquities, books, and geological specimens. Over the years, the BRLSI has evolved and grown, has been conferred royal patronage from 1830 and moved its physical home to where it can now be found in Queen Square.
After a period of inactivity through much of the 20th Century, BRLSI was reborn in the early 1990s and has evolved into the organisation we find today. Today the BRLSI has a membership of over 700, hosts world-class lectures covering a variety of subjects, houses a significant collection covering areas such as archaeology, zoology, mineralogy, botany, ethnology and palaeontology, and has a significant historic library.
They are now seeking a Treasurer with experience of financial management, financial reporting, and statutory accounting processes, as well as familiarity with working at Board level, ideally including experience in the charity sector. The successful candidate will chair the Finance Subcommittee and become a member of the Board of Trustees – overseeing the financial procedures and policies of the Institution, with the support of the Finance Subcommittee.
This is a unique opportunity to lend your skills and experience to a storied and important organisation in the local area.
